Se-5a enagaging an Albatros D.Va (Deflection Shot)

One of the most difficult shots engagements to make.  In this case, an Se-5a is attempting to engage an Albatros D.Va with a deflection shot.  The deflection shot occurs when a pilot attacks at a considerable angle off of the longitudinal axis of the target.  Most squadron and flight leaders in WW I trained their pilots to avoid the defection shot, as it was typical for pilots to underestimate the speed of the enemy plane, and to shoot behind it.  This occurs in the Combat Flight Simulator as well. The Se-5a pilot may get a few shots in, but will more likely squander his ammo, which can be a serious problem..... especially when the guns are empty at last, and your opponent's are not!  In one engagement, Georges Guynemer spared the life of Ernst Udet when the latter's guns jammed.  You cannot expect your opponents to be so generous if you cannot shoot.
