Fokker Dr-1 Triplane engaging British Se-5a
Excellent position for bringing the guns to bear.  However, if both aircraft are moving at fairly high speed, it is probable that the Fokker Triplane may very well overshoot the target, or lose the target during maneuvers. In this case, the pilot of the Triplane must use the exceptional lift capabilities of his machine, throttle back considerably, and use rudder to side-slip in order to keep the Se-5a in the sights.  If he does not do this, the Se-5a pilot may throttle back and execute a series of snap rolls.  This bleeds off speed considerably, and would cause the Triplane to flash past him, turning the hunter into the hunted.
